The police book and arrest a suspect for a certain crime.
Suspect sits before a judge and bail is set.
Jury or Judge hears evidence and formally charges the suspect with the crime.
If the suspect pleads not guilty the trial date gets set. If the suspect pleads guilty then a plea bargain is set.
Prosecution and defense presents cases to jury or judge. The verdict is reached. Guilty or not guilty.
Defendant found not guilty and is set free. His record is wiped.
The defendant is found guilty and the judge sets punishment.
