The Periodic Elements

The elements of the periodic table consist of metals, non metals, and gases. Each element belongs to a certain group categorized based on the atomic number and it's mass.  The groups are alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metal, non metal, halogen, , and noble gases. The elements in the periodic table are used daily by people. The periodic elements are very useful, and our bodies need some of the elements to function.

One element that is very beneficial is "K" Potassium, and "Ca" Calcium

The health benefits of Potassium are,

  • Reduce the risk of having a stroke.
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Help muscle mass

Foods that are high in Potassium:

  • Potatoes
  • Avocado
  • Sweet potato
  • Cantaloupe
  • Tomatoes
  • Banana

The health benefits of Calcium are:

  • Strengthens bones and teeth
  • Regulates muscle contractions, including the heart
  • absorbs vitamin D

Foods that are high in Calcium:

  • Dairy ( cheese, yogurt, milk)
  • dark greens
  • soybeans

                                                          More common elements

Copper( Cu) is everywhere in the United States. Pennies are made of copper. Also, the statue of liberty is made up of Copper. Copper is a transition metal.

Iron (Fe) makes up buildings, bridges, ships. It is a very useful transition metal.

Zinc (Zn) is useful for our bodies. It is used in mouthwash, toothpaste, used in cold medicine, eye irritation, but too much zinc inside the body is not healthy.

Helium (He) is a noble gas and it is used for
