Dead, decay, and millions of years
There is 3 types of fossil fuels, coal, natural gas, and oil. It is made out of decayed animals and plants.
Coal is made out of decayed animals that over a million years ago have died. It is also sedimentary rock. It is mostly found in North America. Coal is nonrenewable because it takes over a million years to create. Coal miner use giant machines to remove coal from the ground.
Oil is made of decayed plants. Oil is liquid at room temperature. People get oil by using machines called oil rigs that dig in the ground and pump up the oil. Two hundred million gallons of used oil are improperly disposed each year. Texas produces 31% of the oil.
It is made up of dead or decayed plants from a million years ago. There are more than 2.1 million miles of underground gas pipelines across the United States. Natural gas is lighter than air. When natural gas is cooled to 260 degrees below zero it changes from a gas to a liquid.
