1. A word or letter placed before another letter.

(Ex. Add the prefix 83 to the extension number.)

(Ex. 'Comfort' is a root word But, by adding 'dis' you can make a new word such as 'Discomfort'.

2. A letter or group of letters added to the end of a word or root.

(Ex. -ation, -fy, -Ing, -itis.)

3. It give the word a different meaning.

(Ex. Unlikely - not likely to do something, Incomplete - not complete)
