Lu Ann Sidney Finds Kauai's Birds
I have always been fascinated by birds and their habits. When I was in Kauai, I encountered a number of birds, some familiar and some not so familiar. To my surprise, nenes were very abundant near Princeville. They were on the hotel grounds and flying around just about everywhere. Of course, there were many, many junglefowl. Since they escaped into the wild after hurricane Iniki in September 1992, their numbers have continued to rise. I also heard and saw a shama thrush up close at the McBryde Garden.
