The Baseball Plant

Euphorbia obesa

Though the endangered baseball plant resembles a cactus, it is thornless making it more vulnerable to herbivory.  Found in South Africa, this plant has been subject to massive amount of poaching (yes you can poach a plant) and harvesting to be sold to collectors.  This species was almost extinct, until restoration efforts by botanical gardens and plant nurseries have protected it from further removal.  This plant acts as a water reservoir in periods of drought and is a critical part of the ecosystems of South Africa.
