DEMOCRITUS (the laughing philsospher)
Democritus was born in Abdera, Thrace in 460Bc and he passed away in 370BC.
- Democritus is best know for his atomic theory and geometry.
- Democritus was also known as the "the laughing philosopher" they called him the laughing philosopher because of his emphasis on the value of cheerfulness.
- Democritus had many remarkable insights for his time he understood that the milky way a large collection of stars, believed space was limitless.
-Democritus had a teacher, Leucippus. Leucippus and Democritus proposed the theory of atoms in the 5th century.

~ Democritus had many gifts in teaching, he taught ethics, physics, mathematics, music, and cosmology. This is something him and Aristotle had in common.
~ He was a young contemporary of Socrates. (Socrates is (469-399 B.C.) was a classical Greek philosopher who is credited with laying the fundamentals of modern western philosophy. He is known for creating Socratic irony and the Socratic method.

-Aristotle work contained the study of logic.
-He studied the living of animals and living plants. it was the greatest biological synthesis of the time it even remained vital centuries after his death.
-He also studied earth sciences or the study of weather.
-In metaphysics, Aristotlianism had a deep influence on philosophical and theological thinking in the Islamic and Jewish traditions in the middle ages, It contuse to influence Christian theology and the Scholastic tradition of the Catholic church, His follower called him (llle Philsosphus) The philosophers or "the master of them that know." Aristotle's philosophy continue to be the object of active academic study today
2 FACTS ABOUT ARISTOTLE
~ Aristotle born in Macedonian city of Stagirus, in 382 BCE. he died 322 BC. His father was Nicomachus. He also had a spouse, Pythias.
~ He was taught by philosopher Plato. he studied Athens for 20 years. He severed Macedonian as a tutor for a little boy known as Alexander the Great. He went back to Athens to become and educator, he opened up his own school called, Lyceum, the school lasted 500 years.
~ Aristotle developed his love for science from his father, Nichomachus.
