The City of Pompeii Before the Eruption

It was a place for wealthy vacationers

-Elegant Houses-



-Artisan's taverns and cafes-

-Bath houses-

-Market place-

There were about 20,000 people living in Pompeii the night before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

-It was said that  the dust "poured across the land" and one witness wrote, it covered the city, "a darkness...like the black of closed and unlighted rooms."


-2,000 people died
-The city of Pompeii was completely covered in the dust from the volcano's eruption.

Rediscovering Pompeii

-Pompeii remained mostly untouched until 1748

-Found artifacts in Campania

-They found many artifacts such as....

-Pompeii turned out to be almost exactly like it had been 2,000 years before.

-Skeletons were froze right where they had fallen and everyday household objects littered the streets.
