How did the Muslim Empire get so big? By military conquest, out of Mecca, east to India, west across North Africa and on into Spain. It only took about 100 years to expand most of their empire. They were also great fighters. If they died in battle, they believed they would go directly to heaven, which is also known as Jihad. They also treated the people they conquered fairly, and they were also good traders..
What was the Battle of Tours?
The Battle ofTours occurred in 732 A.D. in southern France, the French Christians under Charles Martel, defeated the Muslims and stopped the Muslims from advancing into Europe.

Contributions to our society:
-Mathematics: they spread Gupta math ideas. They created Algebra and Trigonometry.
-Medicine: They created hospitals, wrote medical textbooks, and doctors were required to pass exams to practice medicine.
-Architecture: The Muslims were influenced by Byzantine and Indian styles.
-Astronomy: They learned from Greek ideas, they studied the stars and created astronomical tables.
-Islamic Law: Based on Islamic religious law in the Qur'an. These laws became the basis for the political laws in the empire.
-Banking: The Muslims used money, and allowed credit to be used.

The Muslims also preserved Greek and Roman culture, they also improved it, such as translating Roman writings. They learned many things from Greek and Roman ideas.
