The Biomes of the world
by Tadar Mitchener
This is a tundra biome and it is by far the coldest of all biomes. it is a very cold place during winter and drops below -32 degrees Celsius. the summers are still cold with temperatures ranging from 3 - 12 degrees.there are 2 types of tundra, the arctic tundra and the alpine tundra. the alpine tundra is around mountains and not much plant life. the arctic tundra is in the earths northern hemisphere circling the north pole. There are 4 types of plants that grow in tundra, lichen which grows on rocks and looks like dry algy. Cotton grass which is like tall grass with cotton balls on top. the arctic will which looks like sage. and lastly caribou grass which is a small bush of grass. there are some animals in this biome, there are polar bears, arctic fox, caribou, musk ox, snowy owl, penguins, arctic tern and a snow goose. these animals can all survive in the cold environments of a tundra.
Deserts cover about one fifth of the Earth's surface and occur where rainfall is less than 50 cm/year. There are 4 types of deserts, cold desert, hot and dry desert, semiarid desert and coastal deserts. There are relatively few large mammals in deserts because most are not capable of storing sufficient water and withstanding the heat. The dominant species in the desert are generally reptilian animals and few mammals. There are actually a few issues with deserts and the main one is that they are getting bigger and bigger and covering up more and more land which could end up pushing humans away and out of their land or even country.
there are 3 types of forests, tropical forests, temperate forests and boreal forests. forests cover one third of the earths land mass and contain about 70% of carbon present in living things. There are thousands if not millions of different types of animals and plant life in forests some being reptiles and others being birds but there is so many i will not list them. But there is one massive issue with this biome and that issue comes from us, humans. The world’s rain forests could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation. These forests play a significant roll in our survival as they produce oxygen for us to breath and they take in what we breath out, carbon dioxide.
Grasslands are very big biomes which are covered with lots of grass flowers and herbs. There are 2 distinct types of grassland the first one is a Savanna with scattered individual trees, and the other one is a Temperate grassland and this is made up of almost entirely of grass and there is no trees or anything like that. They get between 25 and 75 cm of rain per year.Grassland ecosystems can support high densities of grazing animals, including zebras and antelopes, and the predators that prey on them, like lions and cheetahs. There is actually a bog threat to this biome as it is actually becoming extinct because we are
This biome covers almost the whole surface of the earth, it covers about 75% of the earths surface. This biome houses lot and lots of animal and even plant life so much so that i will not list them in fact there could be thousands of undiscovered animal life down under the sea. Most life on this planet would not survive or even not be alive if it weren't for the ocean as we all survive with water.
