Lithium and Neodymium

By Arnav

Lithium uses

When it hase a charge, it makes up most of the rechargeable batteries.

It is made into alloys with aluminium and magnesium, improving their strength and making them lighter. A magnesium-lithium alloy is used for armour plating. Aluminium-lithium alloys are used in aircraft, bicycle frames and high-speed trains.

It am also given as a medication for bipolar disorder.

what if lithium was gone

You wouldn't have rechargeable devices, planes, trains, and bikes. People with bi-polar disorder couldn't be treated either.

neodymium uses

If it forms an alloy with iron and boron it can make very strong permanent magnets.  Neodymium magnets are also used in car windscreen wipers and wind turbines.

Neodymium is also a component in didymium glass. This is a special glass for goggles used during glass blowing and welding.

Neodymium glass is used to make lasers. These are used as laser pointers, as well as in eye surgery, cosmetic surgery and for the treatment of skin cancers.

what if neodymium was gone

You wouldn't have small thin devices, super strong magnets, or laser pointers. You wouldn't have windshield wipers, one type of renewable energy, or some treatments for cancer.
