Principals, it has come to my attention that directors are being asked to attend PTO meetings and staff meetings to address specific concerns. Since several of these meetings have led to defensive dialogues, I believe it is best for the directors to prepare all Principals and Assistant Principals with the knowledge needed to address these concerns instead of personally attending. If you have specific needs, please let me know and we will work something out.
Mathematics: Mary Kemper
This week is Stop, Collaborate, and Listen for grades 3, 4, 5 (on Tuesday, 1/6) and K, 1, 2 (on Thursday, 1/8). Content Specialists will not meet in January and are encouraged to attend Stop, Collaborate, and Listen instead. Resources relating to the third 9 weeks will be posted to tinyurl.com/educatoracademy following the sessions.
The topic for the next Math Educator Academy on January 14 is Technology Integration. Thank you for signing up your educators to attend this professional learning opportunity!
Based on results from the rubric evaluations and rankings, the Secondary Math Instructional Adoption Committee has narrowed the options to 4 products from 3 companies. The next steps include piloting the resources and eliciting feedback from educators, learners, and parents. The committee has been asked to volunteer to pilot and will be allowed to select the product to use, if they choose to do so. Piloting will occur in approximately mid-January and will include one unit of study.

Language & Literacy: Heather Cato
Very soon, I will be emailing you some preliminary usage report data for Membean. The intended purpose is for all 6-12 learners to be using the program. As a reference, the expectations for the use of Membean at the secondary level can be found on the Language and Literacy Google Site under Beliefs and Expectations- Membean
I would like to schedule a 45 minute meeting with each of the principals to specifically discuss Write From the Beginning and Beyond as well as Balanced Literacy. The purpose of this meeting will be:
- Clarify timelines and expectations
- Identify needed supports and resources
- Share the plan going forward

PBL Campuses – Training with Kevin Gant Has Been ReScheduled
We have the opportunity host Kevin Gant (former New Tech Network PBL Coach) on February 27th and 28th. Kevin has agreed to spend two days with us training both campus administrators and a small team of campus educators in the PBL process. We will need to firm up the details in the next few days. PBL Campus principals PLEASE complete the attached form with the names of the educators/administrators from your campus you would like to attend.
*Please note this training is on a Friday and a Saturday. The campus will be responsible for subs on Friday, February 27th.

Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Training Documentation
At this time, all campus and central office staff should have completed the state mandated Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Training. If you have not already done so, please send me (Deana Harrell) the completed rosters of those who have been trained on your campus. Please designate a place in the office or records room for the certificates to be stored.
I will work with HR this spring to make sure we have a plan for any newly hired staff or those returning from FMLA who require the training.

Coppell ISD Elementary Honor Choir Concert

This January, CISD is hosting the annual Coppell ISD Elementary Honor Choir including students from each elementary school in the district. The Coppell ISD Honor Choir is comprised of individually selected students who have shown excellence in their musical talent, and will perform a special concert exhibiting wonderful music. We hope to see you there.

The Coppell ISD educator recognition program called "SuperTeacher" highlights the 21st Century learning environments, learning designs, and assessments that educators are implementing all over the district to transform teaching and learning.
Members of the CISD staff have the chance to nominate educators with supporting evidence of transformation. Evidence may include, but is not limited to, photos, videos and/or written descriptions. Evidence supporting the nomination can be submitted on the form linked below. Nominations should make connections to Dimensions/Domains within the CISD Educator Evaluation Instrument as well.
Nominations will be accepted online throughout the year, and Dr. Waldrip will personally acknowledge the best of the best during a special lunch!
The next round of SuperTeacher nominations ends January 12, 2015.
Intervention Services: Rhonda Carr
- An e-mail went out to all campus administrators regarding the general education survey needed for the Special Education Program review. Please read and return needed surveys by the end of this month.
- Principals will participate in a focus group in regards to the Special Education Program review at their January 13th meeting.
- Special Education is still has a vacancy for an educational diagnostician and also has a vacancy for a Speech Therapist. Please continue your support and flexibility with your campus ARD schedule.
- The district RtI Committee reconvenes Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Brock TR 1. Members have been notified.
