Ecology Scrapbook

*Ecology is the scientific study of interactions of organisms with one another and with the physical and chemical environment

Crocodiles Individuals In A Population

*Population- A population is a summation of all the organisms of the same group or species.
*Individual- A single, separate organism within a population
They interact with other individuals of their own species, with other species, and with their physical environment.

Example Of Commensalism

They interact with each other as one organism benefits from another to make a community
*Community- A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
*Ecosystem- a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
*Organisms rely on abiotic factors such as oxygen to survive and its essential for life and abiotic depend on living things.
* Commensalism- A class of relationship between two organisms where one organism benefits without affecting the other.
* Mutualism- The way two organisms of different species exist in a relationship in which each individual benefits.
*Parasitism- Relationship between two species of plants or animals in which one benefits at the expense of the other, sometimes without killing it.

  • Animal Kingdom (Top Left) Protista Kingdom (Top Right) Fungi Kingdom (Center), and Plantae Kingdom (Bottom)

*3 characteristics of Protista are -Most are microscopic, one-celled (or unicellular) organisms. Some form colonies of many cells
May have qualities of both animals and plants.

*3 characteristics of Plantae are - Mulitcelluar, Eukaryotic and Obtain energy.

*3 characteristics Of Animal are They are all heterotrophic.  All reproduce sexually (either internally or externally). Eukaryotic

* 3 characteristics Of Fungi are - Eularyotic, Both reproduce Sexually and Asexually, and Hetertrophic

Food Web

*The producer is the grass because it goes through photosynthesis. Then a consumer could be a mouse because it eats the grass. Also another consumer could be a snake because it eats the mouse. Then finally it could be a hawk because it eats the snake then a decomposer could be fungi. Autotroph is basically  a producer and heterotroph is basically an organism that doesn't produce its own food and eats other organism.Grass would be a autotroph because it makes it own food and a mouse, snake, and a hawk would be a heterotroph because it eats other organisms and it doesn't produce its own food.
*Producer is an organism who makes it own food.
*Consumer is an organism that can't make its own food and eats other organisms. *Decomposer are organisms that break down dead or decaying organisms.

*These are aboitic factors because they do not conation all of the living such as they aren't made of cells, They don't obtain and use energy, They don't grow and develop, They don't reproduce. They don't respond to their environment and
They don't adapt to their environment.

*Aboitic affects organisms by such as a certain temperature for plants, or it provides water for plants and animals.

Fish In The Water (Left), Sunlight and Plants (Center), Tree and Dirt/Soil (Right)

*Organisms depend on these aboitic factors is like on the left the fish needs the water to survive. Also in the center the plants need the sunlight to also survive and grow. Lastly on the right the tree needs to soil to grow and develop. These are examples of how these organisms need aboitic factors
