Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a chronic condition in which the heart does not pump blood as well as it should and therefore weakens due to an issue with the heart or vessels of the heart
-Coronary heart disease -High blood pressure -Alcohol abuse -Disorders of the heart valves -Other unknown causes
- Phelgm or dry cough -Chest pains -Shortness of breath -Bloating or watery tension -Loss of appetite -Fatigue -Dizziness -Excess urination at nighttime -Swollen feet -Weight gain -Racing heart beat
-Fetal echocardiogram: a test performed by a doctor to determine in an unborn child will have a heart defect -Echocardiogram: ultrasound to produce images of the heart -Electrocardiogram: electrodes connected to a computer are placed on a baby's chest to show waves that indicate how a child's heart is beating -Chest X-Ray -Pulse Oximetry: sensor placed over finger to record amount of oxygen and blood -Cardiac Catheterization: thin flexible tube is inserted in blood vessel in groin and guided through into the heart
Occurs in 10 per 1,000 people among persons over 65 years of age, as seen in the chart below
-Avoid alcohol intake -Avoid smoking -Keep cholesterol under control -Maintain low blood pressure
-Diuretic medications -Medications that decrease systematic resistance -Beta Blockers that control heart rate and increase cardiac performance -Dioxin medications
