The 26th Amendment

The Twenty-Sixth Amendment gives U.S. Citizens 18 and older the right to vote in any state. This amendment was put into place because during the Vietnam War U.S. male Citizens were being drafted for the war at the age of 18. So, they had to risk their life for their country, but they couldn’t even have any say in government through voting until they there 21. Which was stated in the 14th Amendment which gives the right for U.S. citizens to vote but it also stated that it only applied to people over the age of 21. So the 26 Amendment changed that portion of the 14th Amendment where u had to be 21 to vote. The 26 Amendment was passed by congress on March 23, 1971 and was ratified on July 1, 1971. #kettner  #amendment #tech22
