The reason I put this song is because I think Steve's life is messed up and he just wishes to run away or to forget about everything.

Steve's notebook is a symbol because he uses it to escape reality. He is writing a play on his life and writes and describes his feelings. The notebook IS Steve.

Biography

Walter Dean Myers was born August 12 1937 in Virginia. His mother died when giving birth to his little sister and was then given to his biological dad wife. He died in July first in 2014 in new York at the age of 76.  Walter Dean Myers wrote more than 100 books in total which included picture books and nonfiction. He was best known as an American writer of children books and young adult literature. . He won the Coretta Scott King Award for African-American authors five times. His novel Fallen Angels is one of the books most challenged book because of its adult language and its realistic depiction of the Vietnam War. He sat in the Board of Advisers of the Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrators.

Why he wrote the novel

Their isn't a specific reason as to why Walter Dean Myers wrote Monster. But he did need to  conducted interviews with everyone from teen inmates to prison guards. But it was his conversation with a defense lawyer that really resonated. "He said the most difficult part of his job was to humanize his [teenage] client in the eyes of the jury," Mr. Myers says. "And I realized, it's the same for me."  The book has lots of themes. The main themes are identity, race, peer pressure, dehumanization, crime, teenaged masculinity, and the relative or subjective nature of the truth.

An External conflict in the novel Monster is how the jury and the judge are against Steve because he is black.

An Internal conflict in the novel Monster is how he is in prison and cant help it think on all that is going on inside the jail.

Dynamic Character- a literary or dramatic character who undergoes an important innerchange, as a change in personality or attitude:

Static Character- a literary or dramatic character who undergoes little or no innerchange; a character who does not grow or develop.
