Endocrine System

Your endocrine system is responsible for the fast growth you experience during your teen years. Its is a chemical communication system that controls many body functions. You can care for your endocrine system by getting regular physical activity, getting adequate rest, practicing good nutrition, and learn to manage stress. The endocrine glands work by responding to signals from the brain or from the pituitary gland.

Male reproductive system

The penis is the external sexual organ. During puberty, the testes produces testosterone and sperm. Sperm is the male sex cell. Some problems of the Male Reproductive System are injury to the testes, testicular cancer, hernia, and sexually transmitted diseases.

female reproductive system

In the female reproductive system new life is formed through a process called fertilization. Fertilization is when a males sperm cell joins with a female egg. Three functions of the female reproductive system are to store egg cells, create offspring, and give birth.

menstruation

Menstruation is when the lining material, the unfertilized egg, and some blood flow out of the body. During puberty, egg cells mature and are released by the ovaries in a process called ovulation. Ovulation is the release of one mature egg cell each month. the menstruation cycle usually lasts for 4-8 days.

pregnancy and labor

Fertilization is the union of a single sperm and an ovum. A full term pregnancy last for 9 months. Labor is the full process of child birth. The first stage of labor may last for 12 hours or even longer. Contractions in the first stage gradually open the cervix to a diameter of about 4 inches. The second stage of labor is when the cervix is fully dilated. This stage usually lasts from 1/2 hour to 2 hours. During the third stage of labor contractions separate the placenta or afterbirth from the uterine wall and expel the placenta from the uterus and out of the body through the vagina. This final stage of labor lasts about 20 minutes.

HIV/AIDS

HIV attacks T cells and replaces the genetic information of the T cells with its own genetic information. Aids is a deadly disease that interferes with the body's natural ability to fight infection. A person can be a carrier of HIV for ten years or more before starting to show symptoms of AIDS.
