God Of The Sea,Earthquakes, And Horses...
-Poseidon was the god of the ocean,earthquakes,and horses.
-He was one of the supreme gods of Mt. Olympus but spent most of his time in the water.
-His home was Atlantis.
-Poseidon's symbol was his trident.
-His animals are the horse and dolphin.
-Parents: Poseidon's parents were; Cronus and Rhea.
-Siblings: Poseidon had five siblings. Poseidon was brother to Zeus and Hades. These three brothers divided up creation. Zeus was ruler of the sky. Hades had dominion of the Underworld and Poseidon was given all water, both fresh and salt. Hestia, Hera, and Demeter were his sisters.
-Wife: Because of tradition Poseidon had many wives, but his main one was Amphitrite who was the sea goddess.
-Children: Some of his children were, Antaeus, a giant, Charybdis, a sea monster, Cercyon and Sciron, who were both normal sized.
Personality and Power...
-Poseidon was considered to be the bad-tempered, moody and greedy. If someone insulted him, he would take revenge.
-Greek god responsible for natural and supernatural events, mostly the ones involving the sea. His trident contained his powers. He was known as the savior of ships at sea. Poseidon was able to cause earthquakes, drown lands, shatter rocks and had the ability to finally bring back peacefulness.
Greeks who lived along the coastline were terrified of him. They built temples to honor him. They brought gifts every day. Sometimes the gifts made Poseidon happy, and the water was calm and sparkling. Sometimes the gifts did not make him happy, and a terrible storms would break over the land. The people tried very hard to keep Poseidon happy.
-The name Poseidon means, " Husband of the Earth" or "Lord of the Earth."
- He was the youngest of the twelve Titans.
-He was one of the most powerful gods of all Greek mythology.
-He was also known as Neptune in Roman Mythology.
-Poseidon is second only to Zeus in power among the gods. He often got jealous of his brother Zeus due to him having the most power.
-He is creative, designing all the creatures in the sea.
-He built his underwater palace (Atlantis) himself.
-He was called the "Earthshaking Bull".
-Not all of his kids were fully human.
Myth says that at one time Poseidon liked Demeter. Demeter asked him to make the most beautiful horse in the world. By the time he had made the horse, his passion for Demeter had cooled. But, Poseidon used his shape-shifting power to change into a stallion and have a relationship with her. They had two "kids", that were horses. Myth also says that he had relations with Medusa, and they had a winged horse 'Pegasus' together.
Another myth is that Poseidon and Athena once competed for the love of the people around Acropolis. They had a competition to see who could make the most divine object. Poseidon created a spring of salt water, and Athena created an olive tree. The people of Acropolis chose Athena over Poseidon, and that is why there is they city in Greece is Athens, not Poseidonia.
