What is Lake Hillier ? :
Lake Hillier is a pink-colored lake on Middle Island, the largest of the islands that make up the Recherche Archipelago in Western Australia. From above, the lake appears a solid bubble gum pink. The lake is about 600 meters long, and is surrounded by a rim of sand and dense woodland of trees.
Why is Lake Hillier's water
pink ? :
Lake Hillier's water is pink because there is a high level of salt in the lake combined with the salt-loving algae species known as Dunaliella salina and pink bacteria known as halobacteria. It's not just a trick of light because you can take the water in a jar and it still is pink.
how many pink lakes are there in the world?:
There are 7 pink lakes in the world other than Lake Hillier. Although not all the lakes are pink all year round like Lake Hillier, they are pink some of the time. Also, not all pink lakes are as pink as Lake Hillier, because how pink it is depends on how much salt is in the water.
