Introduction

    Do you know who Vasco Nuñez de Balboa is? Well he's not as famous as Christopher Columbus or Lewis and Clark but just like them, he did many great things. Vasco was an explorer and he went many places and found many great things, he found the Pacific Ocean, he became the governor of Darien, he helped people get food, and he did many more great things. Vasco was a great explorer.             

Why Did Vasco Nuñez de Balboa decide to become an explorer?  

     Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was born in 1475, in Castile Spain. When Vasco was younger he was a farmer for seven years. He thought it was boring and not exciting enough for him so he decided to join a expedition to South America. He loved his expedition and was inspired by it to become an explorer instead of a farmer. Vasco was very greedy, he wanted to be rich and have a lot of money and gold. If he was successful while exploring he would win the favor of the king of Spain. Vasco wanted pride and glory.

Where Did Vasco Nuñez de Balboa Go Exploring And What Did He Find?

   Vasco Nuñez de balboa went many places and explored many things, he went to San Sebastian, a little island. While at San Sebastian everybody was starving, so when he heard natives talking about a small town on the other side of San Sebastian, called Darien, he decided to go live there. While at Darien, Vasco heard natives talking about new land and new ocean. He wanted to find them and become rich and famous. Vasco went exploring for the Ocean and land. He found the ocean the natives were talking about on a hilltop. He was the first European to see the Pacific Ocean, he called it the South Sea.

Were There Any Difficulties On Vasco Nuñez de Balboa’s Voyage?

    The difficulties that Vasco Nuñez de balboa faced were hard. He got into debt at his hometown and hid on his ship with his dog until he was on new land where nobody would find him. When Vasco went to Darien he had found that all the colonists were killed by native people. On Darien there was also a shortage of food, and people died. When Vasco went home and told everybody the good news of the new ocean he had found, the new governor was jealous and Vasco was beheaded

What Happened On Vasco Nuñez de Balboa’s Voyage

     Since Vasco got into debt at his home town, he hid on his ship with his dog and then fled to San Sebastian. At San Sebastian the survivors said that a town named Darien was on the other side of San Sebastian. His troop decided to move to Darien. When they got there since Vasco was greedy, and wanted to rule Darien he established Darien and became the governor of Darien. At Darien all of the Natives were talking about new land and new ocean. Vasco and his troop decided to go look for it. Vasco found the pacific Ocean and claimed it his.

What Are Some of the Important Things That Vasco Nuñez De Balboa Did?

     Vasco Nuñez de Balboa has done very important things in his life. He became the governor of Darien, when people were starving at Darien Vasco went to find food for them. Vasco went to look for the ocean the Natives were talking about at Darien and he discovered the Pacific Ocean. Soon after he discovered the Pacific Ocean Vasco waded into the ocean and claimed it and all its shores for Spain. Vasco also spent 13 years exploring and contributing to the Empire of Spain.

Conclusion

     Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was a great explorer. He found many great things and helped many people. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have found the Pacific Ocean as soon as he did. He may not be as famous like some other explorers, but he is very important to our world history.
