The Moon's Importance
The moon's role
The moon causes many things on earth. Tides, eclipses, and phases are just a few of them. Looking from earth, all of these are just so pretty. The moon may be small, but it can do and cause a lot. So why not know more about the moon?
The moon has eight phases, as seen in the picture above. Those moon phases are full moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent, and new moon. Half of the moon is almost always in sunlight, but since the moon orbits earth you see the moon from different angles causing the phases. The phase of the moon you see depends mostly on how much sunlit side of the moon is facing earth. Phases are just one of the things the moon causes on earth, but it is also one of the most beautiful things to.
A tide is the rising and falling of ocean water that occurs about every 12.5 hours. There are two types of tides, spring and neap. A spring tide happens during a new moon or full moon, and a neap tide happens during a first quarter or third quarter moon. Tides are mostly caused by differences in the amount of gravity from the moon and sun pulls on different parts of Earth. At any time on Earth, there are two places with low tides, and two with high tides.
When an object that is in space and comes in the middle of the sun and a third object, it casts a shadow on that object, which causes an eclipse. There are two types of eclipses, solar and lunar. A solar eclipse is an eclipse that happens when the moon goes directly in the middle of the Earth and the sun, blocking the sunlight from Earth. A lunar eclipse is an eclipse that happens when the Earth is directly in the middle of the moon and the sun. During a lunar eclipse, Earth blocks all sunlight from reaching the moon. The eclipses affect earth by we can see a reddish tint to the moon, which is pretty.
The picture above is representing the moon disappearing. Think about how earth would be like without the moon. Earth would not experience eclipses, moon phases, and tides. Earth would be kind of boring with out the moon, we wouldn't be able to look at the phases or the eclipses and experience their beauty. The moon is very important. The moon causes so many things on earth, and just wouldn't be the same if we didn't have it. The moon plays a big part in a lot of things that occur on earth and in space, that is why it is so important.
