Social Studies

The month of February is designated as Black History Month. During this month, our Social Studies educators will be working to highlight the many contributions and achievements of African Americans in U.S. history, through their learning experiences.

One of the Coppell High School Social Studies educators, Tim Dixon, who serves as Academic Decathlon (AcDec) coach at Coppell High School, guided the CHS team to a Regional Championship on Saturday-January 31st. They will now compete in the State AcDec competition in San Antonio at the end of February.

Career and Technical Education (CTE)

The month of February is recognized as CTE month. Throughout this month, please take a moment to acknowledge the many accomplishments and contributions of our CTE programs this academic year.

“Just do the NEXT right thing, RIGHT!”

Just a reminder that 5th and 8th grade math do not fall under SSI for Spring 2015, and districts are to determine retention procedures for these grades in the area of math. In the CISD, please follow the same retention procedures for 5th and 8th grade math in the spring of 2015 that are followed for non-SSI grade levels in the spring of 2015.

Your campus CTC will need time to train staff on STAAR. While it is a campus determination as to how the training is given, ALL staff need the security training (educators, paraprofessionals, office, IT, GTi, specials, etc.). This training should take about 20 – 30 minutes, depending upon questions asked by staff members. The training related to the specific STAAR/STAAR EOC test being given may be done at a separate time either by grade level, department, etc. I know staff meeting time is precious, so I appreciate the time you provide for the CTC to train staff on security measures and test procedures.

This is a quick read article that contains many sites educators can use for formative assessment.
