Place of Birth: He was born at Woodsettle , Woodsetton , Staffordshire,, just across the county boundary from Dudley , Worcestershire .

Life span: April 14, 1678- March 8, 1717 , age 38

Invention or skill: The person was known for developing a method of producing pig iron in a blast furnace fuelled by coke rather than charcoal.

Length of education: Darby spend 9 years being an apprentice to Jonathan Freeth in Birmingham

Abraham Darby was mostly known for inventing coke smelting also the mass production of brass and iron goods. After coke smelting was invented they replaced coke smelting with charcoal. Charcoal is a black substance that resembles coal and it is used as source of fuel. This was really important because charcoal was really expensive so now they can make something with less money, not only he invented coke smelting, the mass production and iron goods , he also made it possible to have iron and brass steam engines. That’s why he became really famous in this industrial revolution.

Before this ,Abraham Darby was an apprenticed to John Freeth. John Freeth encouraged Abraham Darby to become a highly active member in the society of Friends , when he finished his apprenticed he decided to get married to Mary Sergeant. After their marriage they move to Bristol . There he did lots of his invention . He died at the age of 38 because of his 18th month illness. His wife died a few months later.
