K-12 Mobile Learning Options
Integrating the technology of the 21st Century into the classroom
With the advancement in mobile technology in the classroom, new ways of communicating and learning have become not only possible, but forefront to pedagogical practices within the 21st century classroom. I have listed 5 applications compatable with moble learning, that I believe would be benificial to students and their educational journey both inside and outside the classroom.
What is Journal Jar?
Journal Jar is an educational learning tool that encourages students to think critically, providing the student with a variety of thought provoking questing to both inspire and amuse.
How can I use this in the classroom?
This would be a great application to use with secondary students in a writing course to challenge them to think critically about issues.
What is Story Kit?
Story Kit is a digital app that allows students to both write and share their own stories. You can even record your own voice to narrate a story or add pictures and text.
How can i use this in the classroom?
This application can be especially useful for creating photo albums for class field trips or for such applications as mapping, as students can add detailed descriptions to go along with photos that they have taken for their story
What is it?
Voice Thread is a mobile learning tool that allows students to group or audio blog about a certain topic. Voice thread is also a free application, allowing students to expand, discuss and analyze particular topics, as well as get feedback from other students.
How can I use Voice Thread in the classroom?
Voice Thread would be an excellent application to showcase students understanding of a particular subject or idea. This application could be used as a beneficial tool for children to share some of their experience regarding a particualr book, or even showcase their understanding on scientific subjects
What is AudioBoo?
AudioBoo is a free application that allows students to upload and share audiofiles. Audioboo allows mobile users to record and playback digital recordings of up to three minutes in length which can then be posted on the Audioboo websiteor sites such as Twitter or Youtube.
How can this be used in the classroom?
Audioboo is an easy and effective way to give teachers and students a voice. Audioboo engages the learner, and creates conversations that capture the students thoughts. This could be a great way to create a school radio station that would allow students to use their creativity and learn communications skills.
What is Animoto?
Animoto is an interactive application that allows you to create movies on your mobile device with fictional characters in a matter of minutes.
How can this be useful in the classroom?
Animoto can be used an excellent teaching tool for both primary and secondary grades as a medium for delivering teaching content. For example I used Animoto to construct a anti-bullying video that could be used to educate primary students as to the dangers of cyber-bullying.
