The Tar Heels Lose a Legend

On Feburary 7th, former North Carolina Head Men's Basketball Coach Dean Smith passed away at 83. The sports world was greatly affected and saddened by this loss. Dean Smith coached for 36 years at UNC, coaching many legends throughout his career, including Michael Jordan, James Worthy, and Vince Carter. Many of his assistants or players have gone on to coach in college basketball and the NBA. George Karl, an assistant at UNC, went on to have the sixth most wins as a head coach in NBA history. Smith played four years at Kansas, but never went pro. Many teams, including UNC and Notre Dame, have had moments of silence and have put patches on jerseys to commemorate him.
