Blessing and a curse

Quote:

"While adoption does materially improve the lives of many individual children, at the same time, adoption burdens adoptees for life with enormous psychological challenges and emotional hurdles that must be continually renegotiated at different stages of the life span. As a paradox, then, adoption itself is both a blessing and a curse. As I've written elsewhere, I am grateful that I was adopted, yet I regret that I had to be in the first place. Not a day goes by when I am not keenly aware of my second-class status as an adoptee."

My Ideas:

I would use this qoute to show that many adoptees have a hard time adjusting to their adoptee life.

"While adoption does materially improve the lives of many individual children, at the same time, adoption burdens adoptees for life with enormous psychological challenges and emotional hurdles that must be continually renegotiated at different stages of the life span."

My Ideas:

many people think that by adopting someone thier lives immediately get better but they dont consider their feelings

"Ultimately, I am a part of your family," he told them in the film. "I use my name with pride. But I am also an African-American in your family and, you know, you have to see me as that."

My Ideas:

I can use this qoute to give an inside look on what adoptees from different races think.

Quote:

"People don't like discomfort but when you're adopting a child from another race, another country, it's very important that families understand that they are going to put themselves outside of their comfort zone to really understand what their experience is going to be for the child.... Otherwise, the child is going to be neglected plain, and simple," Bertelsen said.

My Ideas:

I would write about how interracial adoptees have many troubles that will cause them to be depressed, sad, or confused since they have to adapt to A new life style and routine that they may not be used to at all.
