William James Basie

Born William James Basie he was raised an only child his only brother died when he was young so he did not remember him.He grew up in Red bank New Jersey he lived there until he moved to Kansas city to join a band . He met his wife there . He married his wife Catherine Morgan in 1930 They moved to queens in 1942.This is went there was a new form of jazz ushered in called Swing this is when he had done some of his finer work . He then started writing songs again with Billie Holiday and his sextet in 1952. Catherine Morgan died of a heart attack in 1983 in there house in the great Bahama islands. The music style ended due to the second world war . He then started writing songs again with Billie Holiday and his sextet in 1952. They wrote Sugar Chile which became a largely known hit.Then the big band genre had ended and brought among bebop.He wrote many more hit songs and eventually died of cancer in 1984.
