The Hunger Games
A Book Review By LM
I recently read The Hunger Games, the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and I really liked it. Katniss Everdeen is a teenager who lives in District 12, the poorest of all the districts in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem, ruled by the President Snow of the Capitol. The Capitol chooses to remind Panem of their imprisonment by hosting an annual event each year called the Hunger Games. A girl and a boy tribute from each district are randomly chosen to fight to the death on national television in an outdoor arena, and there can only be one winner. Ever since Katniss's father died in a mining explosion, it has been her job to keep her mother and sister alive by illegally hunting and gathering. But when her younger sister Primrose is chosen to take part in the Hunger Games, Katniss panics and volunteers as tribute instead of her. Can Katniss trust anyone in the arena? Does President Snow have something planned for her? Will Katniss win the Hunger Games?
