Byzantine Empire

Time Period: 400-.... A.D

Located on the Eastern half of the old Roman Empire.

The capital was Constantinople.  The religion was Eastern Orthodox, and everyone spoke the Greek language.

The Byzantine Empire spread the Eastern Orthodox religion to Russia.  They also traded ideas with Russia, for example: Cyrillic Alphabet, Religion, Mosaic Art Work, and Architecture.

Reasons why the Empire lasted so long:

-Organized Government

-It didn't get to be too big.

-They minded their own business.

-Justinian's Code: the laws of the Byzantine Empire that are based on the Twelve Tables of the Roman law
