What is Greek Mythology

Greek Mythology are stories created to give values and are especially connected to religion.  The most famous myths are usually about the gods.

Hermes: Messenger God

Hermes is the messenger god.  His job was to convey the dead souls to the underworld.  His symbol was his staff the caduceus .  Hermes had magic sandals with wings on them to allow him to fly.  In Homer's Iliad he was the bringer of good luck.  One of Hermes stories tell that he stole Apollo's cattle when he was born then jumped back in his crib and try to look innocent.  Then Apollo took him to Zeus to say he wasn't happy by the way he was being treated.  Zeus didn't punish Hermes instead he just laughed.

The Minotaur was a creature with the head of a bull and the body of the man.  Theseus and the Minotaur are mostly represented in art.  He also protected the labyrinth from invaders.

Modern Day connectiond

Did you ever know that the shoe Nike comes from the goddess Nike.  Another connection is that your Achilles heel comes from the great warrior Achilles.
