STAGES OF MOUTH CANCER

there are 4 stages of mouth cancer are:

Stage I

The cancer is less than 2 centimeters in size (about 1 inch), and has not spread to lymph nodes in the area.

Stage II

The cancer is more than 2 centimeters in size, but less than 4 centimeters (less than 2 inches), and has not spread to lymph nodes in the area

Stage III

The cancer is more than 4 centimeters in size. The cancer is any size but has spread to only one lymph node on the same side of the neck as the cancer. The lymph node that contains cancer measures not that much than 3 centimeters, but just over one inch though.

Stage IV

The cancer has spread to tissues and also around the lip and oral cavity. The lymph nodes in the area may or may not contain cancer. The cancer is any size and has spread to more than one lymph node on the same side of the neck as the cancer, to lymph nodes on one or both sides of the neck, or to any lymph node that measures more than 6 centimeters, but over 2 inches. The cancer has now spread to other parts of the body. Metastasis is to stuff like soft body tissue and organs. hf

TREATMENTS

Radiation therapy is the treatment of disease, especially cancer, using X-rays or similar forms of radiation.Chemo therapy is the treatment of disease by the use of chemical substances, especially the treatment of cancer by toxicity and other drugs. The final diagnosis has been made and the cancer has been staged, treatment may begin now.Treatment of mouth cancer is rather a multidisciplinary approach involving the efforts of surgeons, radiation oncologists, chemotherapy oncologists, dental practitioners, nutritionists, and rehabilitation and restorative specialists. The actual healing treatment moralities are usually surgery and ;radiation, with chemotherapy added to decrease the possibility of metastasis, to sharpen the malignant cells to radiation, or for those patients who have confirmed far metastasis of the disease.

SURVIVAL  RATES

A remission is a temporary recovery. The overall 1-year survival rate for patients with all stages of oral cavity and pharynx cancers is 81%.The 5- and 10-year survival rates are 56% and 41%, consequently.
