James and Beth
Relaxed Outdoor Wedding
James and Beth tied the knot in a relaxed outdoor ceremony adorned with handpicked flowers
"We wanted a relaxed, house-party vibe for our day, and Lemore Manor was perfect for what we had in mind. We had 30 of our closest friends stay the nights before and after the wedding.
During our engagement, James and I lived in Hong Kong, California and London, so much of our planning was done on the internet. With a loose travel theme in mind, we borrowed old suitcases, cameras and globes for decoration, as well as using vintage postcards of places we’d lived as table names.
My Jenny Packham dress was the most beautiful gown I’d ever seen. I was actually quite nervous about wearing it; with a plunging neckline and ruching at the hips, it was not the kind of dress you could hide behind! But once my bridesmaids taped me in, I stopped worrying about whether it suited me or not. The girls wore pale grey dresses from Dessy, while James opted for a tailormade three-piece suit."
"My mum was amazing and arranged most of the ceremony décor herself. She tied small bunches of gypsophila to the chairs and hung jars of hydrangeas from the tree we held the ceremony beneath. We created our own photobooth, which was a big hit, designed all the invitations and made quirky signs and hanging garlands. Our favours were small tins of tea from Hong Kong. We also created an ice-breaking game by tying a key to each guest’s name tag – with the winning key opening a box containing a surprise bottle of champagne."
My Favorite Moment...
The ceremony was personal, the day relaxed and the night a blur of dance-offs and fancy dress. We wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
My tip for brides-to-be...
Don’t make extra work for yourself! My biggest task was hand-making 120m of bunting – which turned out to be way too much!
