Changes From The Edo Period to the Meiji Period.
Edo Japan was ruled by the shogun and had a feudal system. They had an Emperor, but he actually did very little. In the Meiji period the Samurai who were fighting for the Emperor and against the shogun became the Emperor's advisors. Japan started interacting and trading with other countries in the Meiji period- their period of isolation was over. They based their new society on the good of the Edo Period and the good of the western countries specifically the United States. they were trying to create a combination of both- keep the good stuff from their isolation period, like their culture, and update their technology with western technology.
