The Kaaba

The Kaaba is religious structure of the Islamic religion. It was supposedly built by Abraham and Ishmael 2130 B.C. in the city of Mecca (present day Saudi Arabia). The Kaaba is the first and oldest mosque in the world, and all Muslims face it during prayer. According to the Five Pillars of Islam, Muslims have to make a pilgrimage, called Hajj, to the Kaaba at least once during their life. The number of pilgrims coming from outside of Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj (in 2013) was reported as 1,100,544.
