Report by Leah Friesen
The book The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom begins with a man named Eddie. Eddie is an elderly man that works at Ruby Pier as a mechanic. He is the one in charge of making sure all the rides are running smoothly. One day at work everything was going fine until he heard people panicking outside the repair shop. He walked outside and saw a cart that was stuck on a roller coaster. Eventually, the cart became loose and began to fall. Eddie realized that it was going to land on a little girl so he ran toward her and pushed her out of the way just in time. Unfortunately, the cart fell on Eddie and he was killed.
Eddie meets five different people in heaven and book follows him and the lessons he learns from each person. He meets the blue man and finds out that he was killed saving Eddie. Eddie learns that it is important to look at stories from two different perspectives. The second person he meets is his old commander from the war and learns about sacrifice. The third person Eddie meets is his father and he learns to forgive. Marguerite, his wife, is the fourth person Eddie meets. He learns about the power of love. The final person Eddie meets is Tala and she taught him that his life meant something and that he saved many children while working at the pier.
