What do you think it would have been like to live during the same time as a famous 19th century painter?

I think that it would have been very hard to live in the 19th century as an artist. People weren't always accepting of new ideas in that time and it was hard to make them accept what was going on. Artists often had to beg for what they needed for everyday life. Most of the time nobody would buy paintings from any new artist back then.

I believe that it would be very interesting because you would know about the "future" and what kind of art hadn't come out yet, so you could become a famous painter by inventing a few styles that haven't been invented yet.

I think it would have been interesting to live back then because you could see the paintings and their house and what they used as subjects. I think it would also be interesting to see the drama between the artists and the artists who thought their paintings were no good.

I think it would have been tough to live back then. However, I think it would also be fascinating. Even amazing painters and artist were forced to beg for money. Yet, I believe that it was probably a beautiful, charming time as well. Also, this was a time when new methods of painting emerged, even if they were badly criticized.

I think it would be interesting and enjoyable simply because of the time period. As we have seen in the different artists, the people of that time were very creative and joyful, with big imaginations! But as others pointed out it was a rough time. I would mostly just want to live in that time period because of the type of cool people there were.

I think that living during the same time as a famous 19th century painter would be interesting because you, along with many others, would be listening and waiting for when the painter would be revealing his latest masterpiece. There would be a lot of anticipation and joy.

I think it would have been interesting to wait and see what new things they made. It may have been like waiting for a new movie. But you couldn't describe it to a friend so they would have to see it themselves, it would've been very exciting.

I think that if I were alive during the time of a famous 19th century artist, I would not know it. I usually am very unemotional and disinterested in art of most forms, and although Monet's work is pleasing to the eye, I likely would not have the money to buy any.

I think it would be difficult to live at the same time as a 19th century artist. Not only would the artist most likely not be accessible to someone who didn't live near the artist, but there would not be the technology that we have today. The internet would not be available at all for any purposes, but especially sharing work.
