The Profane is Sacred
My name is Ryan Arnold, tho in seminary, please, call me Ishmael. I'm an MDiv Middler at Luther Seminary in St Paul in the Distributed Learning program. I live in South Florida, am married with two young children, and absolutely love spending the two weeks at Luther Sem each January and June. To live, learn, worship and break bread alongside other future clergy, even for a month a year, is invigorating.
The course we're starting this Tackk for, Religion & Media, is something I've been looking forward to for the past year. Prior to starting down the path of ordained ministry I spent a dozen years working in market research. To combine my interest in religion and media is pure bliss.
The photos shared here are based on a premise: many of our faith communities have become isolated from the world around us. We head for the cozy confines of Sunday pews, and forget to live the promise of Jesus into the world around us.
To engage the world we need to be relevant. Sometimes we need to surprise. We need to take risks. It is only when we get the attention of the random passer-bys that surround us daily that we gain the opportunity to begin conversation, to build Christian community, to plant seeds of faith.
