- The first step of the cycle occurs when a follicle-stimulating hormone is sent from the pituitary gland to encourage growth of the ovaries’ follicles.

-it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

- Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always take the pill each day as directed.
