South Carolina! This is the state down by the shore and up by the mountains. There are lots of breathtaking sights to see.  There are activities to enjoy wherever you go, from visiting the first reform synagogue, to going to the fabulous amusement parks.

Travel Information

Going from Atlanta to South Carolina on a fantastic road trip down I-20 through rural farmland is an easy 3 hrs. 10 mins. drive. You will reach the capital city, Columbia. The total mileage is 214 miles. Make sure you have a full gas tank!

Climate

If you go, in the spring, it's one of the prettiest times to go. You'll get some hot, mild days where it's 78 degrees.  You could go and wear a short-sleeve shirt, and shorts. BRRRR. Other times you have to wear a sweater in 50 degree weather. That can get pretty cold.ul

Historical Landmarks

The USS Yorktown is a ship that was used in World War II, and the Vietnam War, brought back up to sea, after it sunk. Instead of the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, It's located in Patriot's Points National Park, in Mt. Plesant, in the middle of the Cooper River. Years later, USS Yorktown got modernized, and is now a popular museum in Mt. Plesant. there is also many other historical landmarks, but just wait and see what you'll find out when you visit!p

Popular Attractions

There is lots to do down here in South Carolina, like going to Congaree National Park. Congaree National Park is located in Hopkins, S.C. by a big swamp. This fantastic park provides hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. there is also a 2 mile walkway that is highly elevated above the ground.

Physical Features (land forms)

There is lots of pretty land forms in South Carolina like the Ashley River. The Ashley River is a river going from the Charleston Harbor to Summerville, S.C. that provides boating in the pretty waters under the bridges, with access to the Atlantic Ocean.

Dining

Dining. An unlimited choice of irresisistible, mouthwatering restaurants, Like Melvin's BB-Q on James Island near Folly Beach. established in 1939, it is one of South Carolina's most popular restaurants. They have won lots of honorable awards. They have famous sauce, that is very tangy, like mustard. They also have greasy, hot n' ready, Onion Rings, with amazing ribs.
