General John J. Pershing
He was born in September 13, 1860. He was the only person to get the highest rank while alive. Pershing holds the first United States officer service number 0-1. He was regarded as a mentor to World War 2 Generals. On July 15, 1948, Pershing died of coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. Pershing won these following awards, distinguished service cross, distinguished service medal, silver star, Honorary knight grand cross of the order of the bath, and the Legion d'honneur.
