Bessie smith was born on April 15, 1894 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She died on September 26, 1937 at the aged 43 in  Clarksdale, Mississippi, United States

When Bessie Smith was born soon after her father died and then on 1906 her mother and to of her  brothers died. Her childhood was very harsh and depressing.  Bessie Smith Stared preforming as a dancer and singer in 1912. She was known as the "Empress Of The Blues." She soon got married with Jack Gee in 1923. She was discovered by Columbia recordings  in 1923, she signed a contract and made her first song recording. Her most famous song is called "Downhearted Blues." She performed with many great blues genes, including Louis Armstrong. Sadly on April 15, 1973 Bessie Smith died in a car accident.
