Colonial Times
Diary of Claire Schilsky

Today I went horse back riding. I rode me and my family's 2nd born brown horse, Muffin. Me and Muffin rode over thousands of mountains and hills. It was really fun riding with Muffin. After that I put Muffin back in her 8th stall. I gave her plenty of hay and water. Then I went inside to have my yummy lunch. After lunch I went to go pick red, yellow, green, and orange apples from the apple tree. So I ran over to the apple tree full of apples. I climbed up the apple tree, and picked as manny apple as my small brown apple bucket could fit. My dad John Schilsky, would be so happy I picked as manny as my small brown bucket could fit. I glanced at my mom Angela Schilsky, was turning the butter churn. I couldn't wait until tonight! I was going to ride Muffin at the awesome horse show! Just then I heard my dad call, " Come in Claire! " I ran inside the house and asked, " What dad? " Then he said, " Go get dressed into your horse show clothes! " " Sure dad! " I said. I ran up the creaky wooden stairs to get dressed. After I got dressed I ran down the creaky wooden stairs again and shouted to my dad,  " I'm done dad! " Then he shouted back " Okay Claire! I'm going to get Muffin! " " Okay dad! " I shouted again to him. After my dad got Muffin he called, " Claire, come here! " " Sure dad! " I said. I ran outside to get him. " What is it dad? " I asked. " I got Muffin! " He said. " Thanks dad. " I said. " I will get Muffin saddled up while you go eat your yummy dinner. " Said my dad. " Thank you dad. " I said. Then, after I ate dinner of course my dad helped me get saddled up and me and my dad rode over to my mom with another horse ad helped her get saddled onto her horse and did the same thing with Caroline and Kate. Then we all rode together to the horse show.

This is awesome, Claire! You did a wonderful job pretending to write a diary entry back in Colonial times. Your descriptions and explanations were so vivid that I could really picture Muffin, the apples, and the family dynamic. I am so proud of you. Love, Mommy
