Things I Like

These are just a few of my favorite things.  Hope you enjoy!

President I Like

He's big US Grant--that's President Ulysses S. Grant. The S doesn't stand for anything. Some people say it stands for Simpson but it doesn't. He was born Hiram Ulysses Grant. He didn't like Hiram so he went by Ulysses. He needed a middle name to get into the United States Military Academy at West Point so the congressman who recommended him came up with S. President Grant was a good guy but not a very good president. He trusted that those giving him advice were out for the good of the country, but really they were just out for their own good.

Avatar Maker

Not really an avatar maker, is fun and easy to use.  There are dozens of options to choose from and you can spend an hour making the craziest and most interesting composites you've ever seen.  Give it a try!

Song I like

Here is Stacy Kent, kind of a torch singer.  Look her up on SoundCloud or create a Pandora station.  She's great!

Motivational Video

Modern motivational speakers have been around since Orison Swett Marden in the late 1800s, but this guy--Earl Nightingale--was able to turn motivational speaking into a career.  This video is part 1 (of 3) of the video version of "The Strangest Secret".  A masterpiece!

A painting I like

I saw this painting in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  It is by American painter Winslow Homer and it's called "Breezing Up (A Fair Wind)".  Makes you wanna go sailin', doesn't it.

A place I'd like to go

Well, this is supposed to be a map of where Henderson Island is but more often than not all I get is a big white empty space.  If you see a map of the world, consider yourself lucky today.

The Henderson Island crake is a little black flightless bird that only lives on remote, flat and pristine Henderson Island in the south Pacific.  To keep the island pristine, people are not allowed to visit Henderson Island without special permission.  More information here.   Another fascinating animal is the Inaccessible Island rail, another little black flightless bird that only lives on the lonely Inaccessible Island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

My website

When school is in session, my website is a daily blog where students can find out what's been happening in class everyday...
