25 April 1898 - Spanish-American War

United States declared war on Spain following the sinking of the Battleship Maine in Havana harbor,  resulting in the US gaining new territory.

7 July 1898 - Hawaii Annexation

Hawaii was becoming more important as a commercial export resource and as a strategic location for defense in the Pacific region. United States became concerned about the possibility that Hawaii might become part of a European nation's empire so therefore they decided to make it apart of the US.

20 December 1898 - Treaty of Paris

Treaty that ended the Spanish-American War giving the US some islands except Cuba.

25 February 1901 - US Steel

American integrated steel producing corporation founded including Carnegie Steel and J P Morgan.

6 Sept 1901 - McKinley Assassination

President William McKinley is killed and Roosevelt rushes to office as president.

30 June 1906 - Pure Food and Drug Act

Act that ensure that food and drugs of any sort are clean.

9 Jan 1908 - Muir Woods National Monument

Unit of the National Park Service and President Theodore Roosevelt declared the land a National Monument, the first to be created from land donated by a private individual.

12 February 1909 - NAACP

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is formed as a civil rights organization.

1912 - Progressive Party

An American political party formed by President Theodore Roosevelt, after a split in the Republican Party between him and President William Howard Taft. The party was also known as the Bull Moose Party.

1 Dec 1913 - Ford Assembly Line

A new system is advertised, by mechanically moving the parts to the assembly work and moving the semi-finished assembly from work station to work station.

15 Aug 1914 - Panama Canal opens

The Panama Canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean opens leading to less ocean traffic.

16 April 1916 - US enters WWI

Because of all the disagreements over Europe territory, the US finally enters WWI.

1 Sept 1916 - Child Labor Act

Act that banned the sale of products from any factories or shops that employed children from different ages from 14-16 for more than 8 hours a day.

15 June 1917 - Espionage Act

Act that states anyone caught of spying will be convicted of crime.

26 Sept 1918 - Germany surrenders

Germany was in a state of collapse leading to their surrender with signing an armistice.

11 Nov 1918 - Battle of Argonne Forest

This battle was the last major battle of WWI led by Gen. Pershing.

16 Jan 1919 - 18th Admendment

18th Admendment is ratified, banning the scale of alcohol drinks.

4 June 1919 - 19th Admendment

19th Amendment is passed by Congress, giving women the right to vote.

28 June 1919 - Treaty of Versailles

Peace treaty that ended WWI between Germany and Allied Powers.
