Kauai - February 2013
Kauai - The Garden Island
Our first time to Hawaii and we wanted peaceful beauty. Kauai was recommended repeatedly as the place to get away. I had grand plans of helicopter rides, sea kayaking, snorkeling, whale watching, and hikes through Waimea Canyon. However, once I set foot on the beach at the St. Regis Princeville those plans vanished and I wanted to do nothing except relax at the beach with Tammy.
St. Regis Princeville
The St. Regis Princeville is the first place where I have stayed that the actual experience is more beautiful than the website images. The ocean view above is from our bedroom window; the other photos are from the pool and private beach. We stayed for six days and ventured away from the resort only once to shop for a ukelele, sample fish tacos at The Dolphin, and see the sunset from Haena Beach. The experience was glorious and the staff was wonderful. It made returning to reality difficult.
We celebrated our anniversary with the Romantic Dinner at the St. Regis. It is a private, seaside dining experience for two that is unforgettable. The meal begins 30 minutes before sunset with a bottle of champagne and continues with four wine-paired courses into the night. The photo at the top of this webpage and the photos I've included below are un-touched, direct downloads from our point-and-shoot camera. It really is breath-taking.
The experience was unforgettable and I am thankful I chose to spend our time as we did. Clearly there is more to enjoy in the Garden Island and I look forward to returning to see and do it all. The beach at the St. Regis will always beckon so it will likely take multiple visits.
