MY HERO: Ray Bradbury
by Connor Moore
Ray Bradbury (1920-2012)
Ray Bradbury is a hero to me for thousands of reasons, but I will list only the top 3.
1) He inspires me to write, read, and create poetry. Because of him, I feel I am a better and more confident writer.
2) He makes people think deeply about their actions, feelings, and attitude towards others and life. Reading his books is a life changer.
3) His style of writing is inspirational. He read Edgar Allan Poe and that influenced him. I also like Poe, who is also inspires me.
Ray Bradbury wrote fantasy and horror fiction. He didn't like being called a science fiction author, because he felt his work was more unreal and fantastical than scientific. His best known novel is Fahrenheit 451, a story set in the future where free thought and books are not allowed. He was one of the original dystopian authors. Some of his others stories are The Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes. All of these books have been made into movies and are still influential stories in high school literature. Ray Bradbury won the Pulitzer in 2004, and is still considered one of the best authors of the 21st century. He died in Los Angeles on June 5, 2012, at the age of 91.
