Storming of the Bastille
On the morning of July 14th, 1789, a group of craftsmen and salesmen decided to fight back and ran to the Invalides to steal some weapons. The mob stole 28,000 rifles but had no powder. The crowd stormed to the Bastille, a prison that was a symbol of the King's absolute and arbitrary power. At the time, the Bastille was only guarded by a few soldiers. Hundreds of people died during the attack on the Bastille. After it happened, the Bastille was destroyed.
