College History

Texas A&M is the state's first public institution of higher education,Texas A&M is also among the nation's largest universities.Texas A&M owes its origin to the Morrill Act, approved by the United States Congress on July 2, 1862 this act provided donated space for this University. A commission created to locate the institution accepted the offer of 2,416 acres of land from the citizens of Brazos County in 1871, and instruction began in 1876. Admission was only to white males, and, as required by the Morrill Act, all students were required to participate in military training.1960s under the presidency of Gen. James Earl Rudder its doors open to African-Americans and formally admitting women.Texas state legislature officially renamed the school to Texas A&M University, with the "A" and "M" being a symbolic link to the school's past but no longer officially standing for "Agricultural and Mechanical". It is one of three universities to be Tier 1 in the State and also making it among the first four universities to hold the triple distinction of Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant designations.Texas A&M remains one of only six senior military colleges, and the Corps is the largest uniformed body outside the national service academies.

  • Traditions

Fish Camp ,every year about 1,100 counselors willingly give up time and effort in order to welcome Texas A&M’s greatest and most important tradition: The Freshmen Class. Through a 4-day orientation program held in Palestine, Texas, freshmen are given the opportunity to learn Aggie Traditions, ease their way into college life, develop leadership skills, and create bonds that will last a lifetime.

Howdy is the official greeting of Texas A&M University! Greeting each other with a “Howdy!” separates us as the friendliest University in the world. This is the way that we make sure no one on our campus feels like a stranger. No one really knows how this tradition originated, but it is a tradition we encourage everyone to carry on!

    Cost and Tuition

An entering freshman will be assigned the tuition rate associated with their first term of enrollment

It is presumed that students will enroll in 30 hours a year for four years allowing completion of most degree plans. Some majors such as engineering and architecture are offered 1-2 additional semesters at the fixed rate.

An entering transfer or readmit student will be assigned a tuition rate based on their first term of enrollment in college after high school. Transfer students may elect to accept their assigned rate which will expire at the end of four years from the first term of enrollment or opt into the current year’s rate which will be locked in for twelve consecutive semesters or four years.

Admitted transfer and readmit applicants must make a ‘rate code selection’ prior to enrollment. Instructions for making a selection will be provided upon admission.

The total average cost of attendance to attend Texas A&M for one year is approximately $22,470 (for in-state residents), which includes tuition and fees, room and board, books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses.

    Job Requirements

Computer engineers might work on any aspect of computer systems engineering, from hardware to software. Their duties might include designing computer systems, troubleshooting existing systems and developing applications to meet a client's needs.Computer engineers must have at least a bachelor's degree and some internship experience to get a full-time job in the industry. Many computer engineers prove their skills by obtaining professional certification.

Generally, a bachelor's degree is the minimum education required of a computer engineer. Most employers require students to hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, computer information systems, electrical engineering or a similar computer-related field. Employers have a strong preference for graduates with computer programming skills and a familiarity with a range of programming languages.

Taking an internship under the supervision of an experienced computer engineering professional is the best way to learn the skills and technical applications needed to be a computer engineer. Many internship programs are available for college credit in any given major. Internships offer hands-on experience to otherwise inexperienced amateurs in the field. Most employers will not hire a computer engineer who does not have some relevant experience.
