Spanish-American War comes to an end resulting in Spain loosing Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Philippines, Guam, ect.
Start of Philippine American War- February 4, 1899
Fighting broke between American forces and Filipino nationalists, who sought independence for their country. Filipino nationalists were led by Emilio Aguinaldo.
Emilio Aguinaldo Captured- March 23, 1901
Leader of Filipino nationalists was captured.
Ending of Philippine American War- July 4, 1902
President Theodore Roosevelt declared the ending of the Philippine American War. Minor uprisings still occured
Archduke of Austria Assassination- June 28, 1914
Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria is assassinated by nationalist Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo. Russia steps in and to support Serbia, later on causing Germany to step in and support Austria-Hungry.
Austria-Hungry invades Serbia- July 28, 1914
A month after the assassination of the Archduke, Austria-Hungry declares war on Serbia and invades. This event gains Great Britain's attention.
World War I Begins- August 1, 1914
After Austria-Hungry declares war on Serbia, conflict broke out between Germany and Russia which later on result to Germany declaring war on Russia.
Germany Declares war on France- August 3, 1914
Two days after declaring war on Russia, Germany declares war on France and invades Belgium. Following into Britain declaring war on Germany on August 4, 1914
Turkey Enters into War- October 29, 1914
Turkey enters the war along side with Germany. Trench Warfare begins along the Western Front.
German Proclamation- February 15, 1915
Germany declares The British Isles an official war zone and will sink any ship that enters the area
The Sinking of the Lusitania- May 7, 1915
British Passenger ship torpedoed by a Germany submarine killing more than 120 Americans.
Italy Joins War- May 23, 1915
Italy turns against Germany and declares war on Germany and Austria-Hungry.
Capturing of Warsaw- August 5, 1915
Germany captured Warsaw from Russian forces.
Sussex Pledge- April 24, 1916
Germany pledges to the U.S. to not sink anymore ships so the U.S. doesn't enter the war.
Use of Tanks begins- September 15, 1916
Tanks are brought into the war at the Battle of Somme, brought in by Great Britain.
Failure of Diplomacy- February 3, 1917
Germany resumes attacks on the U.S.
Zimmerman Telegram- February 24, 1917
Britain uses Zimmerman Telegram and reveals Germany's plans to ask the Mexican Government to attack the U.S.
U.S. Enters War- April 6, 1917
After receiving the information of Germany's plans from Great Britain, U.S. declares war on Germany.
Selective Service Act- May 18, 1917
U.S. government passes an act that required all men between the ages of 21 to 30 to register of military service.
Italy's Defeat- October 24, 1917
Italian Army heavily defeated at the Battle of Caporetto.
Germany and Russia's Peace- March 3, 1918
Germany and Russia declare peace and sign The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
Treaty of Versailles- June 28, 1918
Germany signs the Treaty of Versailles, ending World War I
