Dear Mary,

Journal Entry - Location

My camp is located near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We don't have that many tents over here. There is about one tent for five people. We have so many drills over here that we only have about five minutes for meals. Drills, drills, and more drills. I wish I was back home enjoying my peaceful life of hunting animals.

happy about?

I am proud of fighting my best for the Union in the American Civil War.

Jeremiah, what is one thing about your life you wish had been different?

The one thing about my life that I wish was different is that there was no war in the first place.

Interview question 4

Jeremiah, why did you choose to battle the Confederacy straight on at the end of the war?

I felt that it was important that I capture the enemy's army so that the war would gradually come to an end.

Dear Bill,

Journal Entry - Fun

Life is pretty tough over here in camp. How is your camp doing? Even if it's difficult, life over here still is a little fun. Very often, I play poker with my fellow officers over here. What do you do to pass time?

Journal Entry - Song

The Union army marches forward,

As it turned its head

The confederates turned their tails and fled,

Johnny Reb has pooped his pants and Robert E. Lee has ran out of toilet paper.

And the confederates gallantly chickened out and perished from the flight of hornets,

Journal Entry - Injuries

During the Battle of Gettysburg, I had taken a bullet through the leg. I was so badly injured that I couldn't stand that well. I had been taken aside by other soldiers who took me to a medical camp about 50 feet outside the battlefield. The doctor had to cut open a portion of my thigh and take the bullet out. When he sewed my thigh together, I had to sit out for a month.

Journal Entry - Home

When I returned home, I was glad I was alive to see my family again. I was glad that the Union had won the war. I was glad that all this slavery nonsense was over. I had returned home because the American Civil War was finally over.
